1. GETTING STARTED - Connect your iBikeChallenge App with your Team Bike Challenge Account

Upon launching the app, you’ll find yourself on the “Record” screen.  Click on the "Settings" button at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Log in to your Bike to Work Day account (follow the link to create a new account).  Once you are logged in, your medals, points and information can be viewed on the App and the trips you record and submit are automatically added to your Team Bike Challenge points totals.

You can also log in to Facebook connect to enable the Facebook related features of the app.  As we develop the iBikeChallenge, we'll build more ways you can compete with your friends from Facebook using the iBikeChallenge App.

2. Recording a ride

Upon launching the app, you’ll find yourself on the “Record” screen.

Confirm the iPhone has a good fix on your location by checking the map before tapping Start. (GPS conditions sometimes prevent accurate location. If this is the case, cycle a short distance and check again.)

When you're ready to start recording your ride, tap “Start.”

iBikeChallenge will lock and dim the screen (to conserve battery power) and begin recording. The app will vibrate and ring like a bicycle bell periodically to remind you it is recording. If your battery goes below a 20% charge, the app will automatically stop recording and shut down.

3. Pausing or canceling recording

To pause recording (for example if you stop for a few minutes for coffee) simply quit the app (press the “Home” button) without tapping “Save.” When you open it again, you’ll be notified that the recording was interrupted, and given the option to resume or cancel recording.

When your ride is over, slide to unlock the app and tap “Save.” (If you don’t want to save the trip and upload the data—for whatever reason—simply quit the app before hitting “Save” and choose “Cancel” when you next open the app and are notified that the recording was interrupted.)

4. Specifying the trip purpose

Select a purpose on the “Trip Purpose” screen and tap “Save.” We’re interested in the MAIN purpose for each trip you make. If you’re unsure how to categorize a trip, select “Other” from the Trip Purpose chooser. You can always include a comment before transmitting.

iBikeChallenge will prompt you to enter comments or notes on the ride, which you can skip if you have none. It will then upload your ride data, notifying you when done. If there’s a problem connecting to the server, it will prompt you to retry at another time.  Only trips that are successfully uploaded to the server no later than 7 days after they are taken count towards your trips, miles and points in the Team Bike Challenge so make sure you upload your trips as soon as possible after you finish your ride.

Remember that Exercise trips do not count towards your points or medals in the Team Bike Challenge competition.

5. My Trips

After your data is uploaded, iBikeChallenge displays the map of your ride, showing the route, distance travelled, and average speed.

"My Trips" in the tab-bar at the bottom of the screen shows a list of all your rides, with dates, times, and mileage. Tap on a trip to display its map. Share the map with others by zooming in or out, taking a screenshot (press Sleep/wake and Home simultaneously), and sending it via email or downloading it to your computer.

Tap “Edit” on the trip list to delete a trip.

6. Leaderboard

After the Team Bike Challenge starts on May 1st, this screen will show your teams total points and rank and your personal points and rank in the Team Bike Challenge Competition.

Click on the refresh button in the upper right corner to update the leaderboards.  This will get the latest rankings from the server

The leaderboard will display your name, but other players will only be indicated by their cyclist type to respect other user's privacy.

7. Medals

On this page, once you've logged in (see 1), you can view the medals you have earned and have yet to earn in the iBikeChallenge.  Each medal is worth bonus points in the Team Bike Challenge so make sure to complete as many as possible before the end of the competition.

This page should auto refresh every time you visit it.  If your medals don't look up to date, click the refresh button in the top right corner of the screen after recording a new trip or after recording trips on the Team Bike Challenge to update your medals page.

8.iBikeChallenge Tips

DO NOT push the "Sleep/wake" button on top of your iPhone while running iBikeChallenge: it will stop recording and you’ll lose your trip data. The app must be visible on your screen in order to work properly; the screen is dimmed to conserve battery life.

DO NOT change tracks or playlists in iPhone's iPod while running iBikeChallenge. Begin play before starting iBikeChallenge.

Pushing the "Home" (main menu) button while on your ride will stop the recording process. Use it to pause or cancel recording. (See Step 3 above.)
