Bike to Work Day, May 13th 2010

Andrew Casteel —

We invite all members of the campus community to ride your bike or take a walk with Bike to Work Day and UC Walks events, both held this May. Participating in these events reinforces our campus's commitment to employee health, sustainability and the environment. Mark your calendar and plan to participate!

On Thursday, May 13, the Berkeley campus will participate in the 16th Annual Bike to Work Day, encouraging a low cost, energy-efficient and health promoting mode of travel. Our campus will host an "Energizer Station" in Sproul Plaza from 7-11 am sponsored in part by the campus The Green Initiative Fund. As a regional sponsor of the event UC Berkeley cyclists can enjoy goodie bags donated by local organizations, and free bicycle licensing by UCPD. Mike`s Bikes will be also available to provide free tips and tune-ups.

Thursday, May 13th is the 16th annual Bike to Work Day, a day of promoting the health, environmental and economic benefits of bicycle commuting. On the morning of May 13, San Jose State University and the City of San Jose will have an Energizer Station at the corner of 4th Street and San Fernando Street, in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. This station, along with more than 200 other Energizer stations located throughout the Bay Area, will provide snacks, encouragement and a free reusable tote bag to bicyclists. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, which coordinates the Bike To Work Day activities in the South Bay, also has scheduled numerous events on that day: http://bikesiliconvalley.org/btwd

We'll have members of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors flipping pancakes and gifts for all who find other ways to get to work than driving alone in a car.
