Cyclists planning to participate in the Bay Area’s 16th Annual Bike to Work Day on Thursday will be greeted by a new feature on Market Street — a separate bike lane now replete with bright green paint.

The enhancements to the bike lane were added over the weekend to Market Street between Gough and Eighth streets. The green paint, similar in color to a “bike box” put down on Scott Street earlier this year, coincides with a new measure to separate the bike lane by adding “safe-hit” posts to the area designated for cyclists.

Gearing up for Bike to Work Day

Andrew Casteel —

Thursday's Bike to Work Day will be the first time in more than three years that the annual spring event can be cast by cycling enthusiasts more as celebration than protest.

That's because in November a San Francisco Superior Court judge partially lifted a 2006 injunction that barred the city from striping new bike lanes and moving forward with other biking enhancements until a comprehensive environmental assessment of the San Francisco Bicycle Plan was completed.

Bike to Work Day – May 13th!

Andrew Casteel —

Bike to Work Day is this Thursday! So hop on your bike and pedal to work instead of driving or taking Muni.

At Tree Frog Treks, we pride ourselves on the fact that several of our teachers bike to class instead of drive. We have four extracycles with containers and bags attached so that our teachers have enough room to pack up their supplies and animals. On Bike to Work Day, we will be encouraging all of our teachers to bike to their classes with the exception of our classes in Marin and in the East Bay. Tree Frog Treks is working to reducing our carbon footprint one class at a time!
